Metamorphosis

"Metamorphosis" is an Opening Show of Emerging Design Talents (EDT) 2024: Transform by Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI). It consists of four distinct parts, centred around the theme of transformation, growth and breakthrough. It showcases students' talents and design works during EDT 2024, combining music, dance, costume design, jewellery, furniture and stage design, motion graphics and virtual idol to convey artistic expression through "metamorphosis". Under the scheme of Advanced Design Studio, this project fosters collaborative creativity among students from four design departments, merging their unique skill sets, talents, ideas, and innovative approaches into a cohesive production. During this interdisciplinary project, students engage in a series of sharing sessions, workshops, and learning activities with renowned industry professionals from diverse fields who serve as Creator-in-residence (CIR) at HKDI. Selected students have undergone supervised outcome-based training by CIRs and project tutors to develop leadership and teamwork skills, and acquire the necessary knowledge and techniques. They also have the opportunities to join overseas study trips to Tokyo and Taipei to gain insights into the professional world of costume design and show production. Leveraging the rich experience and skills gained through the scheme, students ultimately bring forth an array of captivating works for the EDT 2024 opening show.
