Exploring Hong Kong Herbal Tea

Background
Herbal tea has been used in south China for more than a hundred years. In Hong Kong, it constitutes a collective memory for different generations. This project explores tradition and modernity by re-interpreting herbal tea shops. The old Yamen building at Kowloon Walled City is adapted for the project.
CONCEPT
This project is inspired by the duality between heat and cold that drives the herbal tea preparation. This balance of opposites is carried into the spatial qualities, design elements, materiality, and the relationships between the old and the new.
