Glacier Break & Melting
Highlight that as glaciers melt.
PROJECT BACKGROUND
As my theme was "Cracks in Glaciers," the research and development of materials was especially important. I collected a lot of information, including images of broken glass, ice floes on glaciers, and fashion design incorporating these elements. I then integrated these materials into my work, using film and reflective glass to create a broken mirror effect, which was the key of my research.
Glaciers melting is primarily caused by human-induced global warming, resulting from the release of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. To preserve glaciers and protect our planet, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and mitigating the effects of global warming are critical.
PROJECT CONCEPT
My design inspiration comes from the cracks of glaciers and the frozen state of icicles. I combined these visual elements with various clothing materials to create different design concepts. For example, I used internet yarn and crepe to create a snow-white texture, evoking feeling of being inside an ice cave. I also cut glass sheets into pieces to create a cracked effect, further emphasizing the theme of ‘Glacier Break.’
The makeup inspired by glacier melt highlights the beauty of icy blue and white hues, but it's important to recognize its underlying message and potential impact on our perception of climate change. Glaciers melting is a pressing issue that affects our planet's ecosystem and requires collective action to mitigate its effects.
