Mixed-use Animal Welfare Centre for the
PROJECT BACKGROUND
The commodification of animals is identified as the driving force of the blooming pet-trade. With the intention to help increase the adoption rate of stray dogs and evangelize the concept of animal welfare, this adaptive reuse project reinvent an underused building complex in Mong Kok, a place synonymous with the culture of consumerism, into a mix-use animal welfare centre.
Juxtaposition and scale are deliberately used on the exterior elevation of the building and the interior space of the shelter to convey the desperation of the abandoned dogs.
The narrative of pet ownership in the urban context is translated into a simulated exhibition to educate the audience about the social discourse.
