PROJECT BACKGROUND
The Hong Kong music scene has seen a recent revitalisation, thanks in large part to the efforts of local independent artists who bring their own creativity and identity to their music. However, the independent music industry still faces a number of challenges due to limited government support and a lack of available venues for live performances. Many independent bands are forced to seek affordable rental space in areas like Kwun Tong, where more than 3,000 bands are gathered. Despite these challenges, independent music remains an integral part in contributing to the local music industry and its culture.
PROJECT CONCEPT
The Scratch Music Festival promotes and preserves Hong Kong's indie music scene, providing a platform for local artists to showcase their unique identities and creativity to a young audience. The festival's design concept "Music has no limits or boundaries" aims to break down barriers and encourage exploration of new music, while its vibrant visual identity attracts and engages a good amount of music festival supporters and goers. The project seeks to draw attention to the local indie music scene and support independent artists.
