The Louvered Table Lamp
Your daily "states switch trigger"
Background
Collaboration project with Alessi.
The Louvered Table Lamp is a student design project collaborated with the Italian brand ALESSI, themed "Working from Home". During the design, I found that people working at home often struggle to focus quickly when needed or detach from work thoughts when wanting to relax, due to the overmixing of personal and work spaces. So My approach is to integrate familiar daily symbols and their emotional memories into the product design. By triggering emotional connections through these symbols, the design enhances user interaction and uses a "sense of ritual" to help switch between life and work states flexibly.
CONCEPT
The Louvered Table Lamp is Inspired by louvered window. Louvered here means the angled slats which open and close, which symbolise the flowing of air and sunlight, welcoming light and breeze. I believe that in life we often need a “state-switch trigger” and so by switching on the light and opening the slats, we shift our mood into focus mode. Vice versa, we switch off the lamp, the slats close blocking or dimming lights to calm our thoughts creating a relaxing atmosphere.
