UNISEX
Background
Final Year Project
This project challenges gendered fashion norms by merging masculine and feminine elements, addressing societal biases in clothing and professions. Research reveals how stereotypes limit self-expression, from women scrutinized for wearing yoga pants, to exclusivity in male-dominated industries. Technical fabrics with delicate lace are used to mirror how professions shouldn't be defined by aesthetic expressions. The goal of this project is to design gender-neutral apparel that empowers wearers and sparks dialogue on equality.
CONCEPT
In this era of diversity, the concept of genderlessness is gaining increasing attention. My portfolio explores the boundaries of gender in clothing and social roles, challenging the biases and inequalities tied to traditional gender definitions. Through in-depth research on fashion, social perceptions, and the unfair treatment faced by men and women, I aim to provoke reflection on gender equality and inclusivity.
In my collection, I merge both masculine and feminine elements into one. For instance, adorning suit jackets with ribbons and bows inject playfulness while subverting the formality of traditional suiting. Similarly, incorporating reflective tape from construction gear serves as both a functional detail and a tribute to laborers, regardless of gender.
Ultimately, my work seeks to draw attention to genderlessness, challenge archaic gender roles, and foster societal acceptance of equality. I hope viewers find resonance in these designs and reflect on practicing inclusivity and respect in everyday life.
