The Falling Tower of Babel
Background
The “Falling Tower of Babel” costume reimagines the biblical tower of human arrogance, whose divine destruction led to fragmented languages and lost unity. Inspired by artistic interpretations, this piece transforms the myth into a textile form, embodying collapse and disintegration through layered, textured materials.
The tower’s fall symbolizes how pride fractures communication and unity, a theme captured by the costume’s fragmented, decaying textures that evoke both ruin and artistic rebirth.
CONCEPT
"Falling Tower of Babel" is a wearable artwork inspired by Pieter Bruegel’s painting. My design transforms the chaos of the collapsing tower into textile art. Fragmented layers and tumbling figures express the destructive force of arrogance, making this piece a striking reminder of humility and ambition’s consequences.
