Fostering Inclusive Community Integration Across Generations and Needs
Background
The proposed site is located in Phase Two of Quarry Bay Park, a vibrant urban area characterized by a high concentration of nuclear families. Many households include both elderly residents and young children, highlighting a unique intergenerational dynamic. In response to this demographic, the design aims to create a communal landscape that fosters meaningful interaction, social cohesion, and a sense of belonging among all age groups.
CONCEPT
The design inspiration from the form and function of tree roots, the design concept symbolizes legacy, resilience, and interconnectedness. Just as roots anchor and nourish a tree, the proposed landscape aims to ground the community in shared experiences and mutual support. The root metaphor extends beyond physical form—it becomes a framework for social integration, especially for disadvantaged groups who may feel disconnected or marginalized. The design seeks to create a living network where all members of the community—regardless of age or ability—can feel seen, supported, and connected.
