Re-Breathe

Let the land breathe, and bequeath to the people who live.

Background

The Shatin Sewage Treatment Works located at the mouth of the Sha Tin Hoi will be relocated in 2031 and become a brownfield with uncleared pollutants, which needs to be remediated. Therefore, it is an opportunity to apply large scale remediation and make related processes educational to the public.

CONCEPT

The design aims to preserve the iconic signs of water treatment work and also provide new value to the post-industrial land which is being a remediating and educational wetland. In the wetland, visitors walk through man-made buildings towards the natural environment to experience the ‘recovering and rehabilitating’ by themselves.
