Cantonese Slang Interactive Postcard

An engaging journey into Cantonese culinary heritage.

Background

The decline of the Cantonese language is indicative of broader social transformations and highlights the challenges faced in preserving linguistic diversity within an increasingly globalized world. Revitalizing and celebrating Cantonese culture and language is crucial for safeguarding this vital aspect of heritage. As communities seek to honor their linguistic roots, innovative approaches are necessary to foster appreciation and engagement with Cantonese. This project aims to contribute positively to the Hong Kong cultural landscape, encouraging both locals and visitors to embrace and celebrate this rich linguistic tradition.

CONCEPT

The concept involves creating an interactive postcard that sparks curiosity and leaves a lasting impression, particularly focused on educating users about Cantonese cuisine through the language itself, rather than relying on English translations. While numerous beautiful postcards are already available in the market, the challenge lies in crafting one that is both unique and meaningful. To achieve this, the idea of incorporating origami has been proposed, drawing inspiration from traditional Hong Kong culture. This playful element not only adds a tactile experience but also evokes nostalgia through a childhood game known as "East, South, West, North." By blending educational content with engaging design, this postcard aims to create a memorable connection to Hong Kong culture, inviting users to explore and appreciate its culinary delights in a fun and interactive manner.
