Tenka Habour Haven

Form & Space Design

创作背景

Inspired by the enduring legacy of the tanka boats along Castle Peak Bay’s waterfront, this piece pays homage to the vibrant cultural heritage of the tanka community.

Red tiles, intricately patterned with dragon dances, weave a narrative of resilience and tradition, while benches shaped like tanka boats invite contemplation of the bay’s storied past. The design echoes the dynamic spirit of the typhoon shelter, intertwining historical significance with the living customs of the tanka people—fisherfolk and traders whose lives once unfolded entirely upon the water.

At the heart of the composition lies the influence of the Sam Shing Seafood Market, a bustling testament to the community’s enduring connection to the sea. Through careful study, the piece refines earlier design elements, blending the graceful curves and weathered textures of tanka boats into a visually compelling tribute. The result is an immersive experience—one that not only honors history but fosters a sense of unity and belonging among those who encounter it.
