Reflections of Ocean Life in Human Culture

Background

This design background explores the profound and multifaceted connections between ocean life and human culture. Throughout history, the diverse forms of life found in the vast oceans have captivated the human imagination, inspiring art, design.

CONCEPT

The design will underscore the fragility of these cultural-natural linkages, as human activities increasingly threaten the very ecosystems that have inspired us for millennia. By fostering a deeper appreciation for the intertwined histories of marine life and human culture, the theme will encourage the audience to reflect on our responsibility to protect and preserve the ocean's rich biodiversity.

The devil fish is a powerful and spiritual creature, whose graceful underwater dance captivates all who witness it. Inspired by the devil fish, I have designed a hair accessory and a ring. The hair accessory features the elegant shape of the devil fish's tail fin, complemented by intricate floral patterns, and accented with two pear-shaped gemstones, creating a mysterious and alluring atmosphere. The ring, on the other hand, is minimalist and refined, highlighting the streamlined profile of the devil fish, showcasing its resilient qualities. Through these works, I hope to raise awareness about this endangered species and call for collective efforts to protect these precious marine creatures.
Dolphins are the precious residents of Hong Kong's coastal areas, with their elegant figures and leaping motions forever etched in our memories. Inspired by this, I have designed a brooch and a ring. The brooch captures the dynamic movement of a dolphin breaching the surface, with wave-like lines imbuing the piece with a sense of rhythm and vitality. The ring, featuring the dolphin as its central motif, depicts its expression and silhouette in intricate detail, signifying the importance of protecting these rare local marine animals. Through these creations, I hope to raise awareness and promote the conservation of Hong Kong's native dolphin population.
The giant panda is China's national treasure, beloved for its adorable appearance. However, their habitat is under threat, jeopardizing the survival of this species. Inspired by this, I have designed a pendant and a ring. The pendant captures the dynamic scene of a panda embracing a bamboo stalk, with the green gemstone accents symbolizing the panda's verdant home. The ring, featuring bamboo as the primary element, reflects the harmony and symbiosis between nature and life. Through these works, I hope to raise awareness about the importance of protecting the giant panda and its habitat, in order to maintain the delicate balance of the natural ecosystem.
Butterflies are among the most beautiful and captivating creatures in nature, with the Butterfly House at Ocean Park being home to over 110 different species. Inspired by butterflies and floral elements, I have created a series of jewelry pieces. Some feature butterfly motifs, while others incorporate floral elements, using vibrant and sumptuous colors and intricate sculpting techniques to showcase the rich diversity of butterflies. Through these creations, I hope to inspire appreciation and a desire to protect the ecological diversity of our natural world, allowing these beautiful life forms to thrive for generations to come.
Foxes, often depicted as ethereal and agile creatures, share a mystical bond with the ever-changing, enigmatic realm of the oceans. This design concept aims to delve into the extraordinary relationship between these two captivating elements of the natural world.
