The Flash of Inspiration
Repurpose the State Theatre to a co-working space, preserving the distinctive rooftop architectural element while incorporating large skylights to suffuse the office interiors with natural light.
Background
The State Theatre is the sole surviving old-style theatre in Hong Kong, having been awarded Grade I historic building status in 2017. 'Arch' trusses support the theatre's roof, enabling a column-free interior space that minimizes external sound intrusion and enhances the audiovisual experience.
CONCEPT
This public co-working space caters primarily to designers and young entrepreneurs. By incorporating varied ceiling heights and undulating forms, the design aims to provide designers with a fresh, stimulating environment that inspires new perspectives and creative insights through the shifting views and experiences afforded by the spatial qualities.
