By SITU Yupei
Background
The project aims to address the crisis of value for middle-aged individuals and provide a way to spend quality leisure time. The tea space focuses on the art of tea brewing and the creation of tea utensils, specifically the making of Jianzhan, which were considered the "Four Idle Things" during the Song Dynasty. It encompasses both the tea space itself and a workshop for crafting Jianzhan. Through the mindful practices of tea brewing and Jianzhan making, visitors can savour the essence of the natural world and engage with its tactile qualities.
CONCEPT
The design of the space is inspired by the Zen Buddhist story of "Seeing Mountains" and incorporates contrasting design languages to create a rich and harmonious spatial experience, in line with the concept of the unity of heaven and humanity. Elements such as the texture of clay, the form of porcelain, and the angularity of broken ceramics are extracted as design elements for different spaces, symbolically presenting the life journey and transformation of tea utensils.
