Sai Kung AED Machine Mascot Project
Connecting villagers and AEDs to save lives
Background
The Hong Kong Red Cross had installed AED machines in Tui Min Hoi Village, Sha Kok Mei Village, Pak Kong Village, and Ho Chung Village, but found that villagers in Sai Kung were not familiar with using AED machines and their locations. To raise their awareness, four mascots representing the four villages are designed to remind residents of the location of AED machines.
CONCEPT
Adopting a participatory design approach, we organized an experimental character design workshop involving Sai Kung District villagers and students studying Diploma of Foundation Studies (Design). Through this workshop and a survey, we gathered valuable user research insights from villagers at various stages of the design process. Their opinions helped shape the characteristics and attributes of the mascots, ensuring that they resonate with the local community and embody their preferences and cultural features. This collaborative approach allows us to create mascots that can truly represent the spirit and identity of each village, fostering a sense of belonging and connection among the villagers.
