Sacré-coeur

The project explores the intersection of religion, culture, and identity through the portrayal of an Indian woman's connection to the iconic figure of Mary Madonna at the Sacré-Coeur Basilica in Paris.

Background

The project "Mary Madonna X Indian Woman" is an exploration of the convergence of Western and Eastern cultures. It delves into the profound connection between an Indian woman's identity and the iconic figure of Mary Madonna at the Sacré-Cœur Basilica in Paris, highlighting the interplay of religion, spirituality, and cultural exchange. The research uncovers the transformative power of cross-cultural encounters and the significance of embracing diversity in a globalized world. The theme of this project “East Meets West” is Sacré-Cœur. The entire research, and analysis are mainly based on the perspectives on culture, religion, and feminism in an Eastern and Western world.

CONCEPT

The concept can combine the image of the Virgin Mary with elements of Indian femininity, such as integrating the costume of the Virgin with traditional Indian dress, or blending the aura of the Virgin with the headdress of an Indian woman. This amalgamation shows respect and integration between different religions and cultures. By combining the elements of Indian women and Virgin Mary, which are gold accessories and sanctity respectively, I want to present an image that brings out an innocent and sad feeling with the help of makeup and hair design. For makeup, I mainly focus on the shape of the eyebrows and the tear drops in gold colour. For the hair, I design a gold hair piece, which also serves as the halo.
