Reminiscing_The_Memory_Once_Lost

Losing one's memory is a profound fear, as it severs the very connection to one's identity and the world around them

Background

With the trend of population aging, dementia has become the most prevalent illness, with one out of every ten people being a patient, and it is an incurable disease. Its condition is very uncertain and terrifying, severely impacting lifestyle. As the brain's memory function declines, patients lose the ability to self-care and gradually lose memory. This is an extremely challenging illness, not only for the patients themselves, but also for families and caregivers.

CONCEPT

In the research project, through real cases and the poems of poet Join Killick, the immense challenges and feelings faced by dementia patients are understood. As their condition deteriorates, they experience dramatic emotional changes, feeling helpless and lost. Inspired by the film "Finding Dory", the work tells the journey of a dementia patient from being lost to regaining self. This animation prompts reflection - should they be confined in controlled environments to ensure safety, or allowed to maintain social connections with the outside world? Just as Dory ultimately regained her freedom and returned to the ocean, efforts should be made to create an environment where dementia patients can thrive and live with dignity.
