Imperfect
Finding Beauty in Imperfection.
Background
The philosophy of wabi-sabi, rooted in Japanese culture, appreciates the beauty of imperfection, and embraces the passage of time. Similarly, ancient Greek sculptures, despite being damaged and imperfect, continue to be cherished and admired for their historical significance. The exploration of imperfection in art, as exemplified by Venus de Milo, demonstrates the enduring appeal of flawed beauty.
CONCEPT
My design concept aims to utilize the sculptures damaged in the Roman wars to bring out the concept of beauty of imperfection in wabi sabi. Through this approach, I intend to evoke an appreciation for the traces of time, and encourage the audience to reflect on the value and meaning of beauty realized in imperfection.
