Goethe’s wabi-sabiism
Showing perfection in imperfection
Background
East Meets West – The fusion and interaction of Eastern and Western traditions, values, lifestyles, and ideas represents a blending of diverse cultural elements from both regions, resulting in a unique hybrid culture that showcases how different styles, aesthetics, and design philosophies can merge harmoniously to create a contemporary chemistry.
CONCEPT
My design philosophy was to blend the simplicity of Gothic architecture with the Japanese aesthetic of wabi. The garment consists of two pieces - a bra top and an unbalanced skirt. One side of the skirt is replaced by a fishbone motif that runs from the top to the waistline, while the lower body features a thousand-layer skirt with a tree-like texture. . The target audience is all the people who feel disoriented in the modern era. The fishbone on the upper body is meant to symbolize a 'prison' trapping the confused wearer, while the tree-like texture of the lower skirt expresses the idea that each person is unique and should embrace their own strengths to promote themselves.
