Colours of Music
Using painting to visualize the colors of two Hong Kong pop songs
Background
The project is about the research on the relationship between music and colours. Two popular songs of Hong Kong “Boundless Sea and Sky” and “The Pearl of the Orient” were selected. Then, the notes of the music were translated into figures and the duration of notes into sizes. Colours were assigned to the figures and painted with acrylic paints on canvases. To increase the textures, various tools e.g. drumsticks, plastic knife, sticks and hands, etc. were used to hit and strike on the modelling pastes to resemble the playing of musical instruments.
