PROJECT BACKGROUND
Mahjong in Hong Kong is a common local entertainment full of cultural values. Apart from its historical background, the most valuable part of Mahjong is the interaction and communication among the players, for Mahjong is a game that one cannot play on his/her own. The uniqueness of Mahjong has inspired me to develop this project so as to let more people know about this valuable cultural heritage.
PROJECT CONCEPT
I would like the audience to see Mahjong from a different perspective. My intention is not to “re-design”, re-image, or re-make Mahjong into digital artwork, but to give people a new interpretation through digital and virtual platforms. The design concept is to redefine the graphics of Mahjong and show them to people through an online platform. I will create a series of extensions such as short illustrated stories, characters, icons, NFT, and online stickers. My ultimate goal is to make more people appreciate the alternative design inspired by “Mahjong“.
