The birth of a nation
PROJECT BACKGROUND
The design was inspired by the birth of a nation, a set of highly topical and legendary old movies. From as early as 1915, it has become the prototype of development in the film industry. I was further inspired by the 2016 movie with the same name (although the whole story is different), in which the protagonist in the TV series insisted to fight for what he thinks is right. Hence, I am not doing racial discrimination. The theme is the same as the name of the play, which was about the formation of a country.
PROJECT CONCEPT
The color of this piece of work was inspired by the 1915 version because of the mime relationship and the use of color filter to express the emotions at the time. The clothes were inspired by the redesign of the clothes of the movie characters. Most of the colors were from natural dyes. In the end, my friends and I used ceramics to make different buttons as accessories, which expressed our required standards for the texture of the clothes. The buttons in different shapes also symbolized people of different origins.
